Cataract Surgery

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

The decision to perform cataract surgery is based on a number of factors. These include the severity of the cataract, the age of the patient, whether you only have one fully functioning eye and most importantly, the impact on quality of life. Modern-day cataract surgery is a safe procedure with more than 95% of people seeing an improvement in their vision after surgery. The operation only takes around 30 minutes and most otherwise healthy people can continue daily activities almost immediately (no driving until advised by your practitioner). You should see your Optometrist 1 month after surgery as you will most likely require a change to your spectacle prescription.
